BRICK BY BRICK

1.         Brick # 1 – STAYING at it

            The overwhelming emphasis of Proverbs is on verbal encouragement and           teaching.

            Proverbs 5:18 – “May your fountain be blessed and may you rejoice in the           wife of your youth.”

            Establish and Maintain permanent marriages

            * Establish?  Easy!

            * Maintain?  Tough!

The Breakers

            PERSONAL woundedness

            PERSONALITY differences

            PRESSURES of lifestyle, etc.

The Makers

            POSITIVE connections

            PERSEVERANCE

            PROTECTION - I Corinthians 10:12

Every great marriage is the result of genuine and sustained investment by both partners.

Brick # 2 – SHOWING Love

            Proverbs 17:6 – “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are     the pride of their children.”

            All too often, parents and children become adversaries

            Healthy, well-adjusted adults can almost always look back to one or both parents          who loved them irrationally.

Brick # 3 – SETTING and Enforcing Limits

            Proverbs 23: 13 – “Do not withhold discipline from a child.”  Why?

            Proverbs 22:15“Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child.”

We must give our children:        Limits

                                                Boundaries

                                                Consequences

                                                Responsibilities

                                                Accountability

Brick # 4 – SEEING and Developing Giftedness

            Proverbs 22:6 – “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old                   he will not turn from it.”

            * If we help our children understand that there is a Saviour who paid the price for          their sin, usually children will claim that spiritual heritage as their own.

            * Gradually drawing out of the spiritual abilities God has Given them

Brick # 5 – SEEKING Divine wisdom

            James 1:5 - If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives       generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
