MAGNIFICENT HOME MAKEOVER

 

Exodus 20: 12

"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.

 

Ephesians 6:2

2HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise),

 

Honor in this context means to express to them in DEEDS and WORDS our love of them.

 

The first steps in a magnificent home makeover:

 

1.         FOUNDATIONS of FAITH

 

II Timothy 1:5 - For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.

 

How do godly mothers pass on their faith to their children?

 

1st – By their LIVES

 

2nd – By their LIPS

 

Proverbs 1:8 – Do not forsake your mother’s teaching

Proverbs 23: 22 – Do not despise tour mother when she is old

 

2.         CLOSET of PRAYER

 

            - Great Old Testament example is Hannah

            - Giving our children to the Lord does not mean neglect

            - “For this boy I prayed” – I Samuel 1:27

            - Nothing is more touching that a mother’s prayers

 

3.         VERANDAH of VALUES

 

            - A veranda protects you from the elements, and that’s what godly, Biblical

values do.

 

- How did Jochebed’s verandah of values help Moses?

 

Hebrew’s 11: 24-25 -  By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,  25choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,

 

What a blessing that the church partners with us as families

 

 

Some Action Steps:

 

1.         Many people grow up in homes without the FOUNDATION, CLOSET or

 

            VERANDAH. 

 

You can’t undo the past.  But make sure your heart says this: 

 

By the grace of God I’ll provide it for someone else. 

 

Open your heart to MINISTER to others.

 

2.         Satan will do everything in his power to keep you from trusting God because he doesn’t want you to discover the truth that God wants your family to thrive!  But the Bible, God’s Word, has helped families for generations gone by and it will continue to help families for generations to come.  Will you let it help you?

 

3.         God, we thank You for this home and welcome You into it.  We don’t want You standing outside at the door knocking.  We want You in the centre of our life as a family, and we thank you for the way You’ve provided for our every need.  We dedicate this home to You.

           

            Guide us working, Lord, and guard us sleeping.  Draw us close to one another and to You through the conversations that will take place here.  Refresh all who visit here and during their time in this home, may they feel Your overwhelming presence so that they may know Your grace and  love.  We pray that all we do in this place will bring You glory and praise.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

 

4.         All of us participate in the ongoing march of TIME.  We do have certain times when the initiative is ours to express how we feel to those we love.  Do that Now!
