I           Cruise # 1 – Mark 4: 35-41

 

A. Purpose – Did Jesus know the storm was coming?  YES!

 

-The storm was a testing of faith.  It is not enough for us merely to learn a lesson. 

 

-We must be able to practice that lesson by faith, and that is one reason why God permits trials to come to our lives.

 

-The disciples needed to learn that Jesus can be trusted in the storms of life. 

 

- Many people think that storms come always because of DISOBEDIENCE ( Jonah)

 

 This storm was because of OBEDIENCE.

 

 

B. Pounding – Especially fierce – vs. 37

 

- 3 Good reasons why the disciples shouldn’t have been disturbed:

 

            * PROMISE of Jesus – vs. 35

 

            * PRESENCE of Jesus – in the boat

 

            * PEACE of Jesus – Sleeping! – vs. 38

 

 

C. Prone to Imitate

 

How often in the trials of life are we prone to imitate the disciples and cry out “ Lord, do you not care?”  Yes!  He cares!

 

 

II          Cruise # 2 – Mark 6: 45-52

 

A. Wow!  4 Miracles

 

            * Jesus walking on water

 

            * Peter walking on water – Matthew 14: 28-32

 

            * Jesus stilling the storm

 

            * The boat arriving instantly on the shore – John 6:21

 

 

 

B. Why Go?

 

- The restless crowd

 

- The recent miracles – It is good to be on the mountaintop if you don’t get careless and step off a cliff! 

 

-Spiritual “highs” will be balanced with burdens and battles; otherwise we may become pampered children instead of mature sons and daughters

 

– Case In Point:  Elijah – I Kings 19: 1-9

-  Disciples – 47-51

 

C. When Things Get Tough – vs. 47-51

 

            * Conditions – Isolation

                                 - Hopelessness

                                 - Fear, anxiety, dependency, depression

 

            * Counteracting:  PROVISION by the Lord

 

                                        PRESENCE of the Lord

 

                                        POWER of God’s Word

 

                                        PEOPLE to build our faith
