A MAN OF ACTION

Day 3

Matthew 26,   John 13

When you read Matthew and John’s account of the Last Supper, one truth emerges:

Jesus is the Person Behind It All

A         FRICTION

The Upper Room was charged with tension.  Even as the disciples asked Jesus, “Where do You want us to prepare the Passover?” – Matthew 26:17,  Judas was looking for a good opportunity to betray Jesus.  vs. 16

Judas – BETRAYAL

            Disciples – BICKERING

As soon as they get to the Upper Room, the disciples were disputing over which of them was the greatest. – Luke 22: 24-30

Jesus took 2 actions to rebuke this PRIDE

B          FOOT WASHING – John 13: 1-20

Peter is singled out.  He was carrying a burden of failure, after misunderstanding Jesus’ mission – Matthew 16: 21-23

            1. REMOVES the failure

            2. RESTORES the joy

            3. RENEWS the fellowship

C.        FEAST – Matthew 26: 26-29

            Jesus    TOOK

                        BLESSED

                        BROKE

                        GAVE

            4. REFOCUSSES on the Future

D.        FIGHTING FAILURE

            Not FINAL - Psalm 37: 23-24

23The steps of a man are established by the LORD, And He delights in his way. 24When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.

New BEGINNING

Life is a series of mistakes, and they are not the best Christians who make the  fewest false steps.  Poor mediocrity may secure that; but they are best who win the most splendid victories by retrieval of mistakes.  Forget mistakes; organize victories out of mistakes.   F. W. Robertson – See Philippians 3: 13-14

New BLESSINGS - Isaiah 40: 30-31

30Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly,  31Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

Christ meets you at the table.  And when the bread is broken, Christ breaks it.  And when the cup is poured, Christ pours it.  And when your burdens are lifted, it is because He has drawn near
