NOW THINGS ARE REALLY MOVING ALONG

Although the Bible doesn’t give us a job description for grandparents, it gives us:  PRINCIPLES, PROMISES, AND PERSONAL EXAMPLES ( Jacob, Moses and Lois)

I           HAVE and HAND OFF

“May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, the Angel who has delivered me from all harm – may He bless these boys.”  Genesis 48: 15-16

If you don’t truly KNOW the Lord ( salvation) and LOVE the Lord ( passion) you’ll never be able to  truly SHOW the Lord to your grandchildren.

II          KNOW and BESTOW the Truth

            Deuteronomy 6: 1-2

1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life.

The plea of God is to keep handing down the truth – don’t miss a generation.  Don’t take the beauty of family life -  and the reality of being able to hand down the truth to one more generation – as a light thing.  It is one of the central commands of God. ( Edith Schaeffer)

James 1:5; Nehemiah 8:10; Isaiah 45: 19

III        REJOICE IN and REDEEM the Time you have with Them

making the most of your time”  Ephesians 5:16

Loving God……..

I know my grandchildren need my time,

            They deserve my time,

So, while they still want my time,

            Help me to make time,

            While I still have time.

            Holy God……..

            Keep me faithful

To use the time entrusted to me

            Wisely, creatively, unselfishly,

In the lives of those I love.

            Amen

                        Colleen Townsend Evans

IV        ENJOY and ENSHRINE Fun Memories

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Sunday dinners were shared events at their home or ours.  A combination of love, practical godliness, and fun made them grandparents we feel were God’s special gift to our children.  If your grandparenting season is not like this, remember Jesus Christ knows.  Place your trust in Him.  Ruth B. Graham

V         IMITATE and INSPIRE!

            I Corinthians 11:1

1Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

Grandchildren “have the amazing ability to bypass what we say and believe and zero in on what our actions model we believe. The Lord didn’t call us to change the world from a huge public platform, only to be faithful to Him on a day to day basis.”  Chuck Swindoll

VI        DEDICATE and WAIT

“I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life.”  I Samuel 1:11

James 5:7 –Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains.

“If we can teach our grandchildren to live close to Him, then they need have no fear of what comes into their lives because God is in control.”  Mary Lee Bright
