WHY CHRISTMAS?
Today is the 1st Sunday of Advent. When the early church first began to observe the Advent season, it was meant to be a time set aside for:
FASTING
REFLECTING
How do we celebrate it today?
FEASTING
RUNNING AROUND
There is something almost magical about Christmas, but WHY CELEBTATE IT?
Let’s answer that question this morning by asking a couple of other questions!
I WHY BOTHER WITH JESUS?
He’s the REASON for the SEASON, but
Who is He?
1. His CLAIMS
2. His CHARACTER
3. His CONQUEST of Death
II WHY DO WE NEED THIS JESUS
1. He satisfies our hunger for MEANING and PURPOSE in life.
2. He satisfies our hunger for LIFE beyond DEATH
3. He satisfies our hunger for FORGIVENESS and FREEDOM from:
· Guilt – Romans 6:23
· Addiction – John 8:34
· Fear – Hebrews 2: 14-15
III WHY SHOULD I BOTHER?
· I have no NEED of God – Isaiah 59: 2
·
Too much to GIVE
up – I John
· There’s gotta be at least ONE string attached – John 3:16
