Jesus experienced:
I A Real DEATH
Matthew: And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His Spirit.
Mark: And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.
Luke: And Jesus said, Father, into Thy hands I commit My Spirit. And having said this, He breathed His last.
John: And Jesus bowed His head, and gave up His Spirit.
Centurion: This man was the Son of God.
II A Real BURIAL
And so they, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the BURIAL CUSTOM of the Jews.
John 19:40
John 20: 3-7
3So Peter and the
other disciple went forth, and they were going to the
tomb.
4The
two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter
and came to the tomb first; 5and
stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not
go in. 6And so Simon Peter also came, following him, and
entered the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7and
the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings,
but rolled up in a place by itself.
Vs. 5 SAW a Casual Glance
Vs.6 BEHELD Careful Observation
Vs. 8 SAW To understand, to Realize what has taken place.
The wrappings were in position where the body had lain, and the head cloth was where the head had been. The Shape of the body was still apparent in them, but the flesh and bone had disappeared.
He ( John), SAW and BELIEVED.
